Poniższa tabela przedstawia średnice otworów pod gwinty metryczne ISO. Gwinty w otworach przygotowanych w podanych zakresach średnic mogą być nagwintowane typowym gwintownikiem wiórowym lub nacięte frezem. W przypadku frezowania, średnica (wierzchołka) frezu powinna poruszać się po helisie (spirali) równej danej średnicy gwintu.
